It’s Time to Winterise!

Golden Arrow Marine - Winter lay up

It’s Time to Winterise!

We hope you’ve had an enjoyable summer of boating, but it’s time to think about winter servicing and winterisation.

Winter service is essential to the long term health of a marine engine no matter what size or type or how much use it has had. During use the oil absorbs contaminants and condensation from the combustion process and the harsh environment in which it operates. An oil and filter change is the minimum service you should be considering and the best time to do this is before the winter layup. Leaving contaminated oil in the engine over the winter will lead to greater wear and tear and reduced engine life. Combining an end of season service with winterisation is the best care you can give your engine to maintain reliability and the value of your investment.

Arranging your winter service and winterisation now takes away the worry and sleepless nights when the weather forecasters predict a sudden cold snap. If you also book your re-commissioning at the same time you can be sure your boat is up and running when you want it at the start on next season.

So whether you have an outboard motor, a yacht auxiliary or a pair of high performance diesel engines it is time to get your winter maintenance booked. And don’t forget the generator if you have one fitted, they need the same maintenance as a propulsion engine.

Complete the attached Winter Layup & Service form and return it to your nearest Golden Arrow Marine branch to get a quote and confirm your booking.

Torqeedo GmbH makes waves at this year’s METSTRADE winning the Overall DAME Award

Torqeedo – the market leader in the fast growing electric propulsion industry – is today announced as the Overall Winner at the 2016 DAME Awards, hosted at this year’s Marine Equipment Trade Show (METSTRADE).

Renowned for its beautiful engineering, Torqeedo was awarded the category winner for the Machinery, Propulsion, Mechanical and Electrical Systems and Fittings, as well as the prestigious Overall DAME Award, for its highly innovative Cruise FP models.

Judges commended Torqeedo for its Cruise FP models – launched earlier in the year – for the outstanding performance and competitive pricing of the engines, which offer a practical solution in a compact and sleek design. Making waves in the green boating industry and leading the way for an environmentally-friendly future within boating, Torqeedo’s Cruise FP models stood out against other entrants for its highly technical innovation.

Torqeedo’s Fixed Pod (FP) Cruise motors are mounted below the water to save valuable space aboard a vessel, boasting the highest efficiency levels within the electric outboard market – achieving 56 per cent maximum overall efficiency. Weighing under 16kg and 34kg respectively, the Cruise 2.0FP/4.0FP and 10.0FP models provide impressive performance and features such as an integrated on-board computer and up to 1400 RPM. With top speeds of six knots (11km/h) from the 2.0FP/4.0FP and 17.3 knots (32km/h) from the 10.0FP, the Fixed Pod Cruise line can provide the power for motorboats and sailboats up to 10 tonnes.

Torqeedo powers the BBC

The BBC team also used the Torqeedo motors to film jaguars in Brazil, from their boat in the river. This allowed the team to remain with the animals longer as they weren't disturbed from their natural behaviour by the sounds of the motor. Electric outboards are easy to lift, stow and carry, almost silent in use and extremely cheap to run. With vastly improved battery technology, the cleanliness, reliability and low maintenance ownership experience of a modern electric engine is now highly appealing to a wide range of boat lovers and activities. Offering much more efficiency than the typical petrol outboard, electric outboards challenge the petrol motors’efficiency of around 10%, with in excess of 50% efficiency.

See Torqeedo’s motors in action in the Amazon on the BBC Natural History channel, from November 2016. Torqeedo’s environmentally friendly engines achieve the same power as a petrol outboard without the risk of leaking fuel and emissions.

SCR Technology for marine applications

STT Emtec Logo

Golden Arrow Marine, together with specialist company STT Emtec AB, are now introducing an effective solution to greatly reduce NOx emissions from high speed marine diesel engines on the UK and Irish marine market.

“We signed an agreement with Golden Arrow Marine end of last year, and are happy to be at the Seawork International 2016 exhibition with a demo set up” says Glenn Berglund, Marketing and Sales Manager at STT Emtec.

The system uses Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology and is intended for applications where emission demands are stringent.

The system named SCRmarine is a clean tech system meeting future marine exhaust emission regulations already today on existing engines.

“We believe strongly in this system, and reducing pollutants to the environment a substantial contribution to air quality is provided, reducing health risks” says Martin Bizzell, Engineering Director at Golden Arrow Marine.

Its robustness and efficiency is based upon modular, innovative solutions and fully automatic control and monitoring system.

“The system is cost efficient due to the combination of well proven serial production parts in new configurations” says Anton Andersson, sales representative at STT Emtec.

The modular, flexible and small dimensioned system increases the numbers of possible installations, from small boats to big vessels, and engine power rates up to 1000 kW.

Features

  • Hi NOx reduction, up to 90%
  • Modular design, compact and low weight
  • Fully automatic function with generic dosing algorithm
  • Built in monitoring, diagnostic and recording functions
  • Flexible engine interface by CAN J1939 or discrete sensors

Benefits

  • Easy installation
  • Simple commissioning, no calibration required
  • Robust and low maintenance
  • Cost efficient
