UK & Eire Distributor for Moteurs Baudouin

We are delighted to announce our appointment as the Moteurs Baudouin distributor for UK and Eire as of 1st December 2011.

Moteurs Baudouin Medium & Heavy Duty marine engine range includes inline 6 cylinder, V 8 and V12 propulsion engines from 80 kW to 808kW which can be combined with their own range of heavy duty marine gearboxes. Also available are complete shaft and propeller systems of fixed or controllable pitch. In addition to propulsion engines and drive line there is a range of auxiliary and standby generator sets using their 4, 6, 8 and 12 cylinder engines from 68 kWe to 772 kWe.

Southampton Boat Show 2011 Southampton Boat Show, the UK's largest on water show, is upon us again and we will be exhibiting our range of products on Stand Number E072. Rib-X 9mt Caudwell Launched

Sports Boat & RIB show in Southampton saw the launch of the latest custom RIB from Rib-X. The all new 9mt boat is powered by Caudwell Marine's 350SCi V6 petrol Axis drive. The unique 45 degree installation angle of the Axis drive enabled Rib-X 's designers to maximise cockpit space and incorporate an innovative aft sunbed with lifts to reveal a covered cabin and storage area.

The boat is now with its owner in North Wales where he reports excellent performance and handling from an impressively quiet and smooth engine.

Sandbanks Boat Show, May 7th & 8th

We will be exhibiting our Caudwell Marine Axis Drive powered RIB at the Sandbanks Boat Show taking place at Salterns Marina on 7th & 8th May. This is a world exclusive being the first opportunity for the boating public to experience this truly innovative engine and drive system out on the water in our Ballistic RIB fitted with a Caudwell Axis Drive 350SCi V6 supercharged petrol engine. There will also be onshore display of the Caudwell 300TTdi V6 Diesel engine and our staff will be there to discuss other products we represent including Perkins, MAN, Lombardini, Maxwell and ABT-TRAC.

The Sandbank Boat Show is a free admission event, all the leading manufacturers will be there with over 50 new and pre-owned boats afloat and ashore. From Jet Skis to Luxury Yachts there will be a boat for you, with its 5 gold anchor marina location, free parking and the Salterns Hotel waterside bar it is an event not to be missed.

Engine Test Facility Up & Running

We are really excited to announce that our long awaited new engine test facility is now fully operational. The purpose built test room houses two Froude water break dynamometers enabling us to test engines from 120hp to 2000hp. The cooling tower, exhaust system and air induction and extraction systems have been designed to facilitate extended duration testing on engines up to 2000hp.

Engine control and monitoring is provided by state of the art DSG DaTAQ pro 32 channel data logging and display system. Our test engineers can design engine test programes to suit the customers needs and everything can be monitored from the sound proofed control room. All equipment is calibrated to National Standards and fully traceable ensuring the test provides accurate and reliable data.

Use of Bio Diesel in Marine Engines

As of 1st January 2011 the use of bio diesel or FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) is compulsory for all UK inland waterways and recreational craft used on inshore waters which include MCA category A & B waters.

The use of this fuel will cause problems for many engines and our engine manufacturing partners have issued the following statements:

Perkins: Bio Diesel B20 is approved for new 1100 series M300c & M250C. All other models can use B5 bio diesel. The use of B100 Bio Diesel is not approved and will lead to premature engine failure.
MAN: Non common rail engines can use Bio Diesel but service intervals are halved to 100hrs. Common rail engines cannot use B100 Bio Diesel.
Lombardini: All FOCS & CHD engines can run on up to 30% Bio Diesel. JMT common rail engines are not approved for Bio Diesel. In any event the use of Bio Diesel voids warranty on the fuel injector system.

Bio Diesel is a solvent and is aggressive, it will corrode certain metals such as copper and will attack rubbers such as nitrile and neoprene. It is also water absorbent and increases the risk of diesel Bug or bacterial contamination. The general recommendation is to have the fuel system thoroughly serviced and overhauled before using Bio Diesel and then to increase frequency of filter changing. The use of biocide may help to reduce contamination effect. Bio Diesel has a limited shelf life so it is essential that you maintain good fuel turnover.

Caudwell Marine Axis Drive at Ribex 2010

Come and see the Caudwell Marine Axis Drive on the water at RIBEX, Cowes Isle of Wight, 7th to 9th May 2010. On display will be the Caudwell Axis Drive 300Vi installed in a Ballistic 7.8m RIB. You can experience firsthand this ultra smooth and quiet petrol unit that produces 300hp from a state of the art V6 engine. The Caudwell range consists of V6 & V8 petrol and diesel engines coupled to the unique Axis Drive that has received much acclaim for its design initiative and quality of build and materials.

P&O Carnival Tender Refurbisment

Our new premises adjacent to Shamrock Quay with space undercover in the workshop to accommodate boats up to 50ft has enabled us to secure a major contract refurbishing tenders and lifeboats for P&O Carnival cruise ships. The contract includes full interior refit and retrim including new upholstery, replacing all windows and hatches, full mechanical service and repair, fuel system overhaul , steering system, controls, instrumentation and electrical repairs.

We have added specialist boat repair technicians to our staff enabling us to carry out GRP and gel coat repairs, wood work refurbishment, painting and general boat repair work in house without the need to rely on subcontract.

Engine replacements, repowers and equipment fitting can now be carried out in our yard and workshop under controlled conditions. Please contact our service department if you would like to discuss this new service.
